What is Nutritional Therapy and why does nutrition matter?

Nutritional Therapy is based on a simple principle: the body can only function as well as the nutrients available to it. Every organ, gland and cell relies on a constant supply of vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, amino acids and other essential nutrients as the raw materials needed for normal growth, repair and function. When these nutrients are present in the right balance, the body is better equipped to regulate, repair and maintain good health.

When nutrient levels become depleted, or the body is unable to digest, absorb or utilise them effectively, normal function can be compromised and symptoms may begin to develop. Nutritional deficiencies are often an overlooked contributor to ill health, and many symptoms may simply reflect that the body is lacking one or more of the nutrients it needs to function optimally. Nutritional Therapy aims to identify these imbalances and restore optimal nutritional status through targeted nutritional support, helping the body do what it is naturally designed to do.

How are my nutritional requirements assessed and what can I expect from this approach?

Everybody is different and there is no single nutritional programme that is right for everyone. My approach combines Nutritional Therapy with Homeopathy and Systematic Kinesiology creating a personalised programme that looks beyond simply identifying nutritional deficiencies to understand why they may have developed in the first place.

Following a detailed consultation, nutritional questionnaire and assessment of your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and dietary habits, I build a comprehensive picture of your health. This identifies potential nutritional imbalances and provides the foundation for further assessment.

Systematic Kinesiology is then used to help identify your body’s nutritional priorities, allowing recommendations to be focused on the nutrients your body is most likely to benefit from. Homeopathy works alongside this process by addressing underlying imbalances that may be affecting the digestion, absorption and utilisation of nutrients, helping to create the conditions in which the body can make the best use of the nutritional support it receives.

This integrated approach allows Nutritional Therapy to work alongside restoring the body’s natural balance, providing a deeper understanding of not only what your body needs, but also why those needs have arisen and what may be preventing you from achieving optimal nutritional health.

Why might supplements be needed?

Whilst a nutritious, balanced diet should always form the foundation of good health, therapeutic levels of particular nutrients can sometimes be difficult to achieve through food alone, especially where deficiencies have developed or nutritional demands have increased.

In these circumstances, carefully selected nutritional supplements may be recommended to provide concentrated levels of specific nutrients, helping to restore optimal nutritional status more efficiently whilst the underlying causes of those deficiencies are being addressed.

The aim is never to rely on supplements indefinitely. Once nutritional balance has been restored, the focus is on maintaining good health through an appropriate diet, reducing or discontinuing supplementation wherever appropriate.

What about food sensitivities?

Whilst Nutritional Therapy focuses on ensuring the body receives the nutrients it needs to function optimally, it is also important to consider whether certain foods may be acting as a maintaining or aggravating factor in ongoing symptoms.

Where appropriate, I will assess whether food sensitivities may be contributing to your health concerns. If indicated, temporary dietary adjustments may be recommended alongside nutritional and homeopathic support, with the emphasis on restoring healthy digestive function and nutritional balance rather than simply avoiding foods indefinitely.
